Tuesday’s big snow prompted St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 to cancel the day’s classes, which also upended the schedule for ISAT testing under way
But there were other closures as well. Onesti Entertainment didn’t even wait until the lunch hour before it announced the it had postponed Tuesday night’s show at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., until a later date.
“In the interest of safety because of the weather expected to continue through the evening The Doo Wop Project scheduled for tonight March 5, 2013 has been postponed,” the Arcada wrote in a statement emailed to St. Charles Patch. “We are looking to reschedule the show for a Sunday in May. Your current tickets and seats will be valid for the new date. We will send out the new show information as soon as it's confirmed.
“If a refund becomes necessary we can begin processing those once the new date has been set,” the tatement continued. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope everyone stays safe and warm tonight! Please contact Jessica at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or concerns.”
The Baker Community Center, 101 S. 2nd St., announced on Facebook it would close at 1 p.m. due to the snow.
It seemed likely Tuesday morning that the St. Charles Plan Commission, which canceled its meeting a week ago due to 6 inches of snow, also might cancel it's tonight's meeting. More snow is expected by the end of the night.
District 303 waited until early Tuesday morning to announce it had canceled the day’s classes, although many schools began announcing cancellations late Monday in advance of the snow. Among those announcing Monday night were St. Patrick Catholic School in St. Charles, Holy Cross School in Batavia and Faith Christian Schools in Geneva.
For District 303, the cancellation also meant postponing its scheduled ISAT testing, which originally was scheduled to begin Tuesday and run through Friday. It was unclear whether the testing would begin instead on Wednesday or would be rescheduled.
