Father and Son Set to Embark on Ultimate NFL Experience
Craig and Matt Steichen will attempt to see all 32 NFL teams play a home game within 17 weeks.
It’s the ultimate father and son sports experience – watch all 32 NFL teams play a home game in a 17 week span.
The quest of “All 32 In 17/The Ultimate Football Journey” is an experience that’s never been accomplished. One man accomplished the feat in 18 weeks, but not 17, said Craig Steichen, the father of the duo hoping to achieve the sports goal.
The journey begins Sept. 5 in New York to watch the New York Giants raise the Super Bowl championship banner. The trip ends Dec. 30 in Seattle.
While the two avid sports fans look forward to the NFL games, this trip is about more than indulging in the glories of the gridiron. The Steichens, who own Torn Apparel, want to use the trip to bring “put a smile on the faces” of wounded veterans and children.
Steichen said they will extend invitations to vets and children to join them at the games. Steichen and his son Matt have reached out to various organizations like Wounded Warriors to let them know of their plans and put the word out to local media to find game guests. In addition to taking vets and children to the games, they plan to make charitable donations to organizations in each town.
The Steichens have also reached out to several companies, including Gatorade and Snapple, seeking assistance with sponsoring their trip.
“We’ve gone through and estimated what it would cost if we had to pay for everything, but we are looking for some support,” said Steichen, of St. Charles.
Although the duo has not purchased tickets for the games on their itinerary, Steichen said he does not think it will be a problem due to the relationship many NFL players have with Torn Apparel. The company specializes in combining jerseys from two teams into one top.
“We’ve done a lot of jerseys for NFL players and they should be able to help us get tickets to the games,” he said.
While on their journey the Steichens plan to update a website that will be set up for the journey, as well as a Facebook page.
