Many of us appreciate and applaud Kevin Burns’ remarks about Senator Lauzen (as reported in the Daily Herald and elsewhere on Feb. 4).
Sen. Lauzen has been a cipher so far as his work in the Illinois Senate is concerned. The only bill he sponsored, except as a hanger-on, related to maintenance of Aurora residents' pigeon coops. Worse than doing nothing constructive, in his position as a senior legislator he committed an egregious breach of trust by his utter failure to raise early-on a loud and persistent alarm over the state government's grossly inadequate funding of state workers' pensions and/or its promising of pensions in excess of what the fund would be capable of supporting financially.
I suspect that his effort to move from the Senate to the County is motivated in no small part by some sort of pension-duplication/compounding scheme. He certainly has offered no constructive policy-driven reason for seeking this office.
His boasting about being pro-life and pro-marriage reveals a personal philosophy by which women are marginalized and gays are made scapegoats, as Kevin so colorfully pointed out during the Daily Herald endorsement interview. His boasting about holding those views reveals his lack of understanding of what the office he seeks is all about; the County Board Chair does not have any responsibilities to which those attitudes would relate, even remotely.
The County would be very much made the worse off if Lauzen were its Chairman. He has been a do-nothing seat warmer in the Senate and no doubt would continue that tradition if awarded the County Chair position.
I am behind Kevin Burns 100 percent in his effort to become our next County Board Chairman.

I'm firmly behind Kev too.... because clearly, driving in front of him is extremely dangerous.
"According to reports, Burns "advised that he did not know what caused him to collide" with Frew's Caravan."
Maybe more red light cameras would have kept the good mayor from crashing.

Bob,
1. Chris Lauzen was the one that got me to write about the Illinois state pension problem early on as a Beacon News columnist. He sounded the pension alarm long before anyone else did.
2. Senator Lauzen has publicly sworn off any second pension that might come as result of being elected Kane County Chairman.
I'm not asking you to change your vote - I just wanted to set the record straight.

I remember Mr. Burns standing at the Geneva Metra station at 5am shaking hands and talking about candidate he supported. I remember seeing him at meetings in our community and being actively involved in a variety of local issues. I remember Mr. Lauzen sending me an expensive postcard that talked about how he was captain of his Lacrosse team at Yale. Personally, I'd go with the guy who actually knows something about Kane County.

Regarding expensive mailers. Anyone see the multi page "Life Story" in color for one candidate in the 33rd Senate district? The same one claiming to be so frugal?
It makes a postcard look like a penny. It was phonebook size.
How many robocalls have we received yet from any candidates? Should we expect more?
Political robocalls are unlike others and open to the exemption under the category of free speech and 1st Amendment rights.
So the 'do not call' lists do not apply in regard to political calls. But public opinion does demonstrate that the voters find them annoying and actually proven to work against a candidate rather then for them.
I don't know that it will stop anyone or their family members being put on tape to promote them however.

Kevin Burns has no business being in public office to begin with. His treatment of his fellow Geneva citizens is proof of that. Chris Lauzen gets my vote. He has the integrity and experience that Burns sadly lacks.

Who is their right mind believes that a lone Republican in Springfield can change the long standing corrupt political culture and pay to play tactics of House Speaker Madigan, Governor Quinn and Senate President Cullerton. Springfield isn't going to change. They will continue to kick the can down the road to the local level and burden us with higher taxes.

Bob Mann another Geneva Blowhard. Tell me, does character matter to you? Apparently not because Mr. Burn's infidelity matters hugely to the voters. Any blowhard can get up to shake hands at dawn when HIS well being on the line. What a desparate attempt to prop up a loser! Everyone knows McKinntrock runs Geneva. Burns just spews vitriol. That much is a know fact.
