UPDATE: New Road Construction Project Announced for St. Charles
IL 25 will be closed south of Fox Glen Drive for three weeks to repair a culvert at Norton Creek.
It's summer in Illinois and that means road construction.
St. Charles residents who have to brave East Main Street on a daily basis well know the travails of road construction. Long lines of cars surrounded by the dusts of road construction as the Illinois Department of Transportation adding and widening lanes, new lighting and repairs bridge work along a nearly six-mile stretch of road between downtown St. Charles and DuPage Airport in West Chicago.The $39 million project is slated to be completed next year.
Now IDOT announced a new project in St. Charles beginning July 23. IL 25 will be closed just south of Fox Glen Drive for three weeks while IDOT repairs a culvert at Norton Creek. Motorists should use alternate routes or follow the posted detour route during the closure, the city announced Wednesday afternoon.
According to IDOT access to residences, businesses and side streets on IL 25 north and south of culvert will be maintained, however, through traffic will not be permitted. A detour route will be posted directing traffic to Illinois 64 (Main Street) and Dunham/Kirk Road to access Illinois 25.
The estimated completion date is Aug. 10.
The culvert replacement is being added to a larger project that will build a new bridge carrying Red Gate Road over the Fox River. The $21 million project includes widening and reconstructing IL 25 and IL 31, as well as drainage, lighting and traffic signal improvements, IDOT officials said in a release.

Wish we had the detour information - my elderly father lives right near the Fox Glen Drive and I need to figure out how to get to his house during the construction. Any idea how long this will take?

There was a sign at the Stearns Rd./Rt. 25 intersection that said Rt. 25 would be closed from Stearns Rd. to Rt. 64. Lets make things a little more difficult!

i swear there is a detour for the detour for the detour now a days. every main road in St. Charles must be under construction. and also the road isnt being closed to the Red Gate Bridge project. it says on there website. so i dont know why its closed

According to the article 25 will be closed near Fox Glen for work to be done on the Norton Creek culvert. Which, as I've stated previously is brand new, why does it need repairs? This is why we should all invest in a hovercraft!

do you suppose they knew this would be necessary to the redgate project that they rammed down our throats but didn't want to admit how much this abortion was really going to cost? This is one way to bury twenty million, as everyone has pointed out that bridge is only a couple of years old. the "improvements" are part of the bridge project. Add to this the three weeks of work they have done on drainage they didn't think they'd need, somebody who has access to the numbers should be figuring out what this fiasco is actually costing us. It's odd, when they were conducting "studies" I asked the involved engineers what they planned to do about drainage, pointing out the constant erosion of Pinelands road due to this issue and was assured it was no problem. Oops.
