St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 said Thursday that rumors of threats to Thompson Middle School and St. Charles East High School on Thursday were unfounded, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
Superintendent Donald Schlomann, in an email to parents and teachers, said “no credible threat exists,” and explained that the district worked with the St. Charles Police Department to make that determination, according to the the Kane County Chronicle report.
The rumors come nearly a week after a gunman forced his way into Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Conn., and shot to death 20 children and six adults before taking his own life. The violence shook the nation, sparking school security and student safety concerns even among St. Charles parents.
On Wednesday, the district, the police department and the city worked together on a press release that was issued with hopes of reassuring parents they are working together to ensure the safety of the students.
