Rogina Announces Run for St. Charles Mayor
Third Ward alderman makes bid for post two weeks after Mayor Donald DeWitte announces he will not seek a third term.
St. Charles 3rd Ward Alderman Raymond P. Rogina on Friday became the first person to publicly declare his candidacy for mayor in 2013, just two weeks after Donald DeWitte announced he would not seek a third term.
“I, Raymond P. Rogina, announce my candidacy for mayor of St. Charles,” Rogina wrote in a release issued Friday. “As in my candidacy for alderman, I view public service as a wonderful opportunity.
“It is an opportunity to improve our community with the help of colleagues, staff, and citizens,” he wrote. “I have a strong bond with the city of St. Charles. It is where I have spent most of my life and career. Numerous residents of this great city have shared with me many positive experiences both professionally and personally.”
In his announcement, Rogina said the mayor is responsible for easing communication among residents, the City Council and the city staff. “In a city of diverse and unlimited needs and desires, the ultimate challenge is to build an overall consensus with limited resources,” he wrote. “This challenge must be accomplished under an umbrella of fiscal responsibility and stability. Our financial stewardship is a standard to emulate.”
Rogina said he thinks of St. Charles when he recalls Norman MacClean statement, “Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.”
“When I think of this passage, I think of St. Charles. I think of the many opportunities each ward presents,” Rogina wrote. “Amid the challenges accompanying each opportunity, present and future, I look forward to working collectively with the people of St. Charles and its stakeholders.
“As mayor, I will serve diligently in order to continue advancing the city’s mission — defined by the City’s 2014 strategic plan: ‘Preserve our heritage, foster opportunity, build community, and enhance the quality of life for all,’” he added. “It is my privilege to ask for your vote and support.”

So is Mr. Rogina a Democrat or a Republican?

Not that it matters much at this level, but Mr. Rogina is one of the most liberal Democrats you will ever encounter. He extolled the virtues of Lisa Madigan (the next Governor of Illinois in his opinion) loudly and clearly in the St. Charles Post Office shortly before the last Aldermanic race.
Thinking about it...it does matter because St. Charles is going to be facing some serious economic conditions, budget-wise, over the next few years and it would be best to have a conservative spender rather than a liberal one at the helm.

How do you know that he is a liberal spender?

Steve your right it can matter, but I think the aldermatic elections are more important. They are the ones who should be setting direction more so than the mayor. We the residents need to make sure we elect a strong council. Those who have followed the mayor like a little puppy dog need to go and replace them with people who will represent the people and willing to speak up when they need to. Mr. Rogina needs to prove to me he will work for the people not his own agenda by his actions over the next 6 months. If he does so he may have my vote, if he does not he definitely won't. We have spent the last 8 years dealing with someone who was working on his own agenda and to heck with the people. I myself am done with that and hope the rest of the residents are too.

Mr. Rogina may have been an excellent teacher but he is a terrible Alderman. Just like when he was a teacher, he decides what is best for his constituents instead of listening to what they have to say or what they want. If they confront him about an issue, he loses his temper and shows he has an anger management problem; I suppose that comes from being a teacher and not having one's pupils challenge one.
Ask the residents of the Red Gate, St.Pat's, and Belgian Town areas how he did them. It is a good thing he is running for Mayor because he would only be a one term Alderman. I only hope that he doesn't screw the entire City like he did the residents of his Ward.

We can only ensure that our knowledge of the most crucial issues in this city will benefit St Charles.... with our vote. Recall last elections' pathetic 13% voter turnout. Do NOT let that happen again! Tell your neighbors to be sure to educate themselves on this candidate's community and aldermanic history-not only his connections and teacher history. Learn about ALL the candidates-not just your favorite, with blinders on. And, brace yourselves, as we approach critical mass with our city spending, lending and debt, in the next few years. We need a conservative with a heart for all the neighborhoods of our city, proof of their commitment to a clear platform and a track record of involvement in many aspects of our community, not just an appearance when they decided to run for a city office, or when offered a favor from a friend.

We certainly don't need any more democrats ruining our lives. We have it at the federal level, the state level and now the local level.
