2nd UPDATE: Raw Video of Monday Morning Storm

The storm watch until noon was canceled. Trees and branches were reportedly blocking roads at points throughout the area.

 

10 a.m. UPDATE: The Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Tri Cities and the Kane County area has been canceled, according to the National Weather Service.

The Watch was initially supposed to last until noon. The area was also under a Severe Thunderstorm warning until 8 a.m., which was shortly before the worst part of the storm struck.

Here are some wind and regional damage reports from today, Monday, July 11, courtesy of the National Weather Service:

Aurora, Kane County side

9:04 a.m.—A thunderstorm wind gust of 50 m.p.h. was reported by a trained spotter. Many large tree branches were reported down.

7:59 a.m.—A thunderstorm wind gust of 60 m.p.h. was reported by a trained spotter.

West Dundee

7:55 a.m.—Thunderstorm wind damage reported by the public, large tree limbs down.

Sugar Grove

7:50 a.m.—Thunderstorm wind gust of 64 m.p.h., measured at Aurora Airport.

7:43 a.m.—Thunderstorm wind gust of 60 m.p.h., measured at Aurora Airport.

Initial Post

7:23 a.m—A line of severe thunderstorms swept through the Tri-Cities causing numerous downed power lines and streets blocked by downed trees.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning started at 6:58 a.m. and ended at 8 a.m. today (Monday, July 10).

Downed trees have been reported at Route 31 and Fabyan Parkway, Randall Road and elsewhere, so be careful driving.

"PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: GUSTY WINDS MAY CAUSE SMALL BRANCHES TO BE BLOWN DOWN...AND LOOSE OBJECTS TO BLOW AROUND. SEEK SHELTER IN A STURDY STRUCTURE UNTIL THESE STORMS HAVE PASSED."
