Suspicious Package-Fraud Investigation

A 66-year-old resident of the 700 block o Viewpoint Drive reported that a package had been delivered to her residence on Feb. 4 marked that was addressed to a Cayce Kite in Auburn, Ala., but had been returned due to a bad address. The return address had her husband’s name and their address, but neither she nor her husband had sent the package, she told police. Inside were two checks drawn on a Sovereign Bank account, and each check was made out to Cayce Kite for $2,450. Police contacted Sovereign Bank, which said it had had numerous reports of fraudulent checks drawn on the bank. The bank told police the account on which these two checks were drawn did not exist.

Police Blotter information is provided by the St. Charles Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
