Driving Under the Influence

Sylwia Anna Kopacz, 25, of the 1300 block of University Lane, Palatine, was charged at 4:24 a.m. with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, 53 in a 30 mph zone on the 700 block of West Main Street. She posted her driver’s license and $100 and was released pending a Feb. 6, 2013, court appearance.

DUI

Andrew George Zero, 24, of the 4N900 block of Route 25, was charged at 1:16 a.m. on the 1300 block of East Main Street with DUI, and driving with an obstructed windshield. Police said Zero ignored an officer directing traffic at an accident scene at 12:51 a.m., nearing striking the officer and the squad car, but then stopped abruptly when it came upon a fire truck and ambulance at the scene of the crash. The officer said Zero’s windshield was frosted over. He posted his driver’s license and $300 bond and was released pending a Feb. 14, 2013 court appearance.

DUI

Samuel William Jensen, 24, of the 500 block of Union Street, was charged at 1:28 a.m. on the 1300 block of East Main Street with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving too fast for conditions. Police said Jensen’s vehicle was westbound at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Nicholas W. Wirsching, 27, of West Chicago. Neither man was injured. Jensen posted his driver’s license and $300 bond and was released pending a Feb. 21, 2013 court appearance.

Criminal Property Damage

A 51-year-old resident of the 1300 block of Fox Chase Boulevard reported at 8:16 p.m. someone had damaged his mailbox between 7 p.m. Jan. 12 and 9 a.m. Jan. 13. The victim said the mailbox had been knocked down and that he found it several blocks north of his address. The victim told police his neighbor’s mailbox has been damaged several times, and that other residents in the area also have experienced damage to their mailboxes in recent weeks.

Vomiting Woman Hospitalized

Police were called at 12:58 a.m. to the Alibi Bar & Grill, 12 N. 3^rd St., on a report of a woman vomiting. Police arrived to find the extremely intoxicated woman in the women’s bathroom woman, surrounded by a pool of vomit. She began vomiting again when paramedics arrived to check on her, and she was transported to an area hospital.

SATURDAY, JAN. 12, 2013

DUI

Michael Allen Bosch, 60, of the 4N500 block of Babson Lane, was charged at 12:17 a.m. on the 1300 block of East Main Street with DUI, and failure to yield or stop at an intersection. Police responding to an accident at 13^th Avenue and East Main Street. The other driver, Zane Connor Okonek, 21, of St. Charles, was treated by paramedics for a laceration. Bosch posted his driver’s license and $100 bond and was released pending a Feb. 21, 2013 court appearance.

Theft Less Than $500

A 46-year-old Wayne resident reported at 3:54 p.m. the theft of a Samsung Galaxy 16 gigabyte smartphone. The victim told police he went to pick up the phone at the UPS Store, 2400 E. Main St., but that the box in which it had been shipped had been opened and retaped before he picked it up. He opened the box in his vehicle and discovered it was missing the cellphone and the receipt and returned to the store to inform the clerk, who said he did not know what to do and would contact the store owner. Meantime, the victim contacted Verizon Wireless, which had shipped the phone, and Verizon told him that the phone had been delivered and signed for at the store, and that the victim still is responsible for the $248.38 cost of the device, and that he could be charged the full $599 retail value of the device, which had not been activated yet.

FRIDAY, JAN. 11, 2013

DUI: Intoxicating Compound

Fernando Lopez Jr., 20, of the 29W500 block of County Ridge Drive, Warrenville, was charged at 8:25 p.m. at East Main Street and North Kirk Road with driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance after police found his vehicle stopped facing east, and Lopez inside where he appeared to be having a seizure. He was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva. Police said Lopez had visible “track marks” typical of intravenous drug use on both arms. Police also said they found an empty hypodermic syringe bag and syringe caps also inside the vehicle. Lopez was diagnosed with opiate overdose, police said, and was released from the hospital. He posted his driver’s license and $100 bond and was released pending a Feb. 14, 2013 court appearance.

Battery, Property Damage

Rocco A. Seaton, 22, of the 1900 block of Holbrook Lane, Hoffman Estates, was charged at 12:28 a.m. with battery, and fighting after a fight at Alley 64, 212 W. Main St. Manager Brian Martinsen told police he tried to break up a fight involving four individuals when he was punched in the face by Seaton. Two of those involved in the fight left, one possibly had a broken nose. Martinsen told police he escorted another individual in the fight outside and told him to leave, and that individual damaged one of the bar’s patio lights. Seaton was cited and released on his own cognizance.

THURSDAY, JAN. 11, 2013

Identity theft

A 32-year-old resident of the 800 block of 3^rd Avenue reported at 4:03 p.m. that someone had purchased four electronic items from Verizon Wireless using his name and address. He has been in contact with Verizon, which has begun a fraud investigation and asked him to report the matter to his local police.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 9, 2013

Two Empty Semi-Trailers Stolen

PDS Express, 3701 Illinois Ave., reported at 7:56 a.m. the theft of two empty semi-trailers from behind the business. The trailers last were seen on Dec. 28, 2012, and were being leased from Extra Lease, 320 W. Touhy Ave., Des Plains. No value was reported.

Retail Theft Less Than $500

Chris Stompanato, 53, of the 700 block of Versailles Parkway, Oswego, was charged at 12:08 p.m. with retail theft-less than $500 after Meijer, 855 S. Randall Road, reported the theft of $30 and some Illinois lottery tickets while working at the store’s gas station. He was released on his own recognizance pending a Feb. 14, 2013 court appearance.

Retail Theft Less Than $500

A 47-year-old resident of the 7N400 block of Wagontire Road, reported at 2:33 p.m. the theft of her daughter’s silver flute and its case between Dec. 13, 2012 and Dec. 14, 2012 from an unlocked locker in the band room at Haines Middle School, 305 S. 9^th St. The victim had waited to report the theft with hopes that it would turn up, but it had not. The instrument was being leased from an Aurora music store.

Criminal Property Damage

A 39-year-old resident of the 400 block of South 1^st Street reported at 6:02 p.m. that someone had ripped the driver-side windshield wiper off her vehicle while it was parked from overnight on January 7-8 in the lot of her apartment building. Damage was estimated at $50.
