St. Charles Police Standoff Ends With Arrest

Kane County SWAT called in, but police say no one was hurt, no hostages were taken during four-hour-long barricade incident along Whittington Course.

St. Charles police have taken an unidentified male into custody and had him transported to Delnor Hospital after a four-hour standoff that began after the individual threatened to shoot his father.

Police say the barricade situation unfolded about 4:16 p.m. at a townhome in the 100 block of Whittington Course on the city’s Northeast Side, where officer were called for a domestic disturbance report. Officers were notified while on their way that the male threatened to shoot his father and had barricaded himself in the basement of the home.

Officers arrived to find the parents outside the home. Because of the reported threats, police established a perimeter and requested assistance from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Unit. Authorities evacuated an adjacent townhome as a precaution and said that while access to the rest of the townhomes was restricted during the standoff, no other evacuations occurred.

According to police, the Kane County SWAT team arrived and negotiations began. The male agreed to leave the home after several hours, when he was taken into custody and transported to Delnor Hospital by the St Charles Fire Department.

St. Charles police say the investigation is continuing into what prompted the domestic disturbance. The suspect’s name is not being released at this time because formal charges have not been made yet, police say.

Police said no one was injured and no hostages were taken during the standoff, which ended at 8:05 p.m. The area was opened back up shortly thereafter, according to police.
