Temporary Parking Lot Completed on First Street
Downtown area gains 50 temporary parking parking spaces, pedestrian walkway.
Construction of the temporary public parking lot on the east side of 1st Street, and the asphalt walkway along the east side of 1st Street from Main Street to the new temporary parking lot, have been completed, according to a release from the city.
Drivers can access the new parking lot from 1st Street.
The project creates an additional 50 public parking spaces in support of area businesses, the release states. It also enhances access to Main Street and the pedestrian path along the Fox River.

Stupid. I can't believe that area has not been developed. Even in a poor economy,that is such a prime spot it makes me sick thats a parking lot.

The parking lot could serve as a stage area for concerts/festivals and the rest could be developed into a gem of a river front park that will draw more foot traffic to the suffering local businesses. As Chicago saved the lakefront over 100 years ago, St Charles should do the same for public use. Creation of a world class kayak run/shute along side of the property might also be possible and draw non-residents to the area. You might sell day passes or season passes to use the kayak course to create revenue.
