Our “Best of” series takes us inside the grocery bags of St. Charles. What’s the best grocery store in St. Charles?
Whether you’re a coupon clipper or a list maker, you know where your favorite place is. Tell us in the comments.
As usual, only one comment per user. You’ll have until Friday night to cast your vote.
(Editor's Note: This list of grocery stores isn't exhaustive. It's just meant to spark inspiration. You don't have to pick just from the list below.)
Blue Goose Market—A hometown choice, the Blue Goose is the neighborhood grocery store in downtown St. Charles. It’s family-owned and a landmark in the city.
Butera—While not exactly a local market, Butera is a small chain that operates in the Chicago area. The East Main Street location is one of just 10 stores.
Jewel-Osco—The Itasca-based supermarket chain keeps two locations in St. Charles, one on and the other off of East Main Street.
Super Target—It’s easy to spot the big red store. Target is another of the large big-box type stores on or near East Main Street in the city’s east side business corridor.
Meijer—This 24-hour “hypermarket”—a combination of a supermarket and department store—sites on the border of Geneva on Randall Road.

What about Super Walmart?

For me it's Meijer's (hey, that's how you say it) hands-down, for a couple reasons.
1) It started in Michigan - my wife's home state
2) Great history - started by an immigrant Dutch barber during the depression
3) Local feel - it's a Midwest company, not a national chain
4) Great produce and groceries, nice sporting goods section, photo printing, clothes, electronics, pharmacy and more. And good prices to boot!
In fact, a visit to Meijer's (seriously, it's how everyone says it) is one of the things that helped convince me to move to Saint Charles from the city. True!
And no, I don't work for Meijer's.

Ryan, people in Illinois call it "meijer's" just like they call Jewel "The Jewel" As a Michigan transplant it drives me insane to hear people call it that-there's no s! haha
I'm voting for Butera; I wish I would have discovered it sooner-what a great little market!

Chrissi, it must depend what part of Michigan you're from. I just checked with my wife - she's saying "Meijer's." Could be a "Detroit thing?" I mean, some of her family worked for Ford's.
Re: Blue Goose - definitely a nice place, one I enjoy visiting, but there's better savings at Meijer's, uh, Meijer.
The Fresh Market in Geneva should get a shout-out too. Excellent butchers there.

My vote doesn't count because I'm the Geneva Patch editor, but I have to say: While I shop them all and like them all for various reasons, Blue Goose is my favorite. Excellent quality meats, deli and personal service.

Since I live on the east side of the river, we go to both Super Target and the newly renovated Walmart equally.

The all above mentioned grocery chains, are all good for one thing or another, and the "super shopper" goes with value for money spent! So Butera has got to get the vote!

Always been fond of the Blue Goose, so that's #1, but there's alot to be said for Aldi also.
