Whiz Kid Aria Novak is on a Mission

St. Charles fourth grader Aria Novak is on a mission to show the world that "a little kindness can go a long way."

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Starting the first "Time for Kind Day," an initiative designed to show people how a little kindness can go a long way.

"I am just a kid trying to be myself, a leader not a follower," said Aria. "If I have the drive to do the right things, maybe others will follow my lead."

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Aria Novak wants to make the world a better place, and she's starting with her classmates at Wild Rose Elementary School.

“People always say kids can be so mean," Aria said. "I don’t think it’s just kids who can be mean. I think everyone can be unkind at one time or another."

With that in mind, she approached Principal Donna Clavelli about starting the first national "Time for Kind Day" on April 13. Clavelli felt the idea was something worth being involved in, especially with the school districts newly integrated Anti-Bullying campaign.

Because of Aria's activism, she was given the opportunity to sit as a student representative on District 303's Anti-Bullying Committee with Superintendent Dr. Donald Schlomann.

Aria said her goal is to get her fellow classmates to “set our differences aside and treat everyone with the kindness and respect that they deserve."

"Time for Kind Day" will take place on April 13 and is being observed throughout the school district.
