Small Acts, Big Impacts

St. Charles is a wonderful community. Family-oriented, business-friendly, and rich with culture and historic charm, the riverfront community of St. Charles is a standout. St. Charles earned national recognition as the #1 place to raise a family by Family Circle magazine for its affordable housing, quality schools, open green spaces, safe neighborhoods, financial stability, access to healthcare, and good neighbors with a giving spirit.

Many individuals and organizations work together to make St. Charles an all-around great place to live, work, and play.

One group that is often overlooked is employees of the City of St. Charles. Those employees appreciate recognition from customers, whether it be residents or businesses. But, they don’t crave it. In their line of work, great service is more often recognized with silence than with fanfare.

Every day employees of the City of St. Charles make a difference in the lives of the citizens they serve. That difference can come in ways both big and small. Sometimes, it only takes a small act to create a big impact.

During 2013, the City of St. Charles will be producing a series of articles called “Small Acts, Big Impacts” that highlight the contributions of employees. The series will focus on what employees do in service to the City of St. Charles. It will also focus on how employees make their community a better place.

Small Acts, Big Impacts is designed to raise public awareness of and appreciation for the value that City employees bring to effective local government and to make St. Charles a great community.

Hundreds of individual decisions are made each year - choices that shape and define how the community looks and feels. Whether it is a decision about safety and security of the public, downtown revitalization, keeping the electricity on, or the reconstruction of a street, City employees are the people behind these decisions, turning policies into action and ideas into results.

As public servants, local government employees are committed to the values in the City’s strategic plan: Respect, Engagement, Sense of Community, Accountability, and Excellence.

I hope that you enjoy learning more about who City employees are and what they do to make St. Charles special.
