Indoor and Outdoor Bets for Today in St. Charles

With AccuWeather predicting times of clouds and sun, humid and warmer, and a shower or thunderstorm thrown into today’s forecast, you may have to take a look at the sky before deciding whether you want to go out or find something to do indoors.

AccuWeather’s hourly forecast for the day shows the likelihood of showers or storms is strongest about 9 a.m. and again about 3 p.m., although the chance of rain is at 33 percent or better throughout the day, dropping steadily in the evening.

Indoor Bets

So, if it’s raining when you get up and go and you want to go somewhere indoors, you  might consider taking in a movie — Charlestowne 18 Theatres, 3740 E. Main St., has a bunch of options, with some shows beginning as earlier as 11 a.m. Visit the Classic Cinema’s website for a listing of Wednesday’s shows.

Shopping is another option, and there are plenty of places from which to choose in the St. Charles Patch Business Directory. At the City Council’s Monday night meetings, Mayor Raymond Rogina has been urging residents to “shop local” because it’s good for the community, keeping resident’s money in town, helping local businesses, generating local revenues.

But he’s also been asking residents to take time to visit the East Side businesses in particular — nearly three years of construction on Route 64 has taken a toll on many because folks have been avoiding the construction — and not visiting those businesses as often.

Outdoor Options

Starting at 3 p.m., you can check out the Heinz Brothers Farmers Market at  2010 E. Main St, St Charles. Go ahead, stock up your larders — that’s what farmers markets are good for — with fresh produce and other goodies.

From 6 to 9 p.m., head downtown for the STC Live! evening of entertainment in First Street Plaza. The Plaza Folk Union — six college friends from Bartlett — bring their upbeat and exciting blend of folk music to the plaza’s intimate outdoor venue.
