Four firefighters from the Southern Fox Valley EMS program volunteered at Marklund last Wednesday in order to get one step closer to becoming full-time firefighters. This one-year program is offered through Delnor Hospital requires four to six hours of observation and chose to complete the hours at Marklund.

Marklund is a nonprofit organization serves adults and children with severe and profound disabilities. The firefighters volunteered their time to “hang out” with the clients served by Marklund. They read to groups and played games including checkers and bowling.

Ian Proce of Westchester who works for the Aurora Township Fire Department even arm wrestled the clients--and lost.

“It was a good time, very organized and geared specifically towards the clients,” said Alex White of Geneva, who has been with the Elburn Fire Department for three years. “It really got me out of my comfort zone, but was well worth it.”

Adan Lopez of Aurora who has worked with the North Aurora Fire Department for eight years described his experience as “amazing and awesome.”
