Peter Suhr to be Recommended for Appointment to Director of Public Works

Suhr Has Been Serving as Interim Director Since August 2013

City Administrator Mark Koenen will recommend the appointment of Peter Suhr as Director of Public Works at the April 21, 2014, City Council meeting. Pending Council approval, Suhr’s appointment will be effective May 1, 2014. He has served as Interim Director of Public Works for the last 9 months.

Suhr has been with the City for five years, serving as Assistant Director of Public Works prior to filling the Interim Director position. A licensed architect in Illinois, Suhr has 15 years’ experience in Architecture, Construction and Development. Before joining the City, he worked as an architect and construction manager in the private sector.

“I am confident that Peter will continue to successfully lead the department to best serve the people of St. Charles,” said Koenen. “He has the knowledge and experience to provide the proper oversight of Public Works operations and projects.”

Major public works initiatives directed under Suhr include the completed Municipal Building rehabilitation and the construction of the new biosolids building at the wastewater treatment plant.

About permanently assuming the Director position, Suhr said, “Mark has developed an impressive Public Works Department and I am glad to be able to continue providing the citizens of St. Charles with timely, reliable, cost-effective services.”
