St. Charles local stone sculptor Kevin W Fehlenberg completes a stone restoration project for University of Illinois
Until recently, University of Illinois' Robert Allerton Park was missing the head of one of its most prominent stone sculptures. Vandals attempted to steal the head of a century-old stone statue inspired by the Charioteer of Delphi, a famous Ancient Greek bronze sculpture housed in the Delphi Museum. However, instead of making off with this priceless piece of history, they shattered it, leaving a headless figure to guard the entrance to the early 20th century site. Attempts were made to restore the original head, but after it became clear that the head was damaged beyond repair, sculptor and stone carver Kevin W Fehlenberg of Original Handmade Sculpture by Kevin Williams was hired to replace the head completely.
