Calling All Alumni of Boy Scout Troop One

Alumni Sought to Participate in Honor of Grand Marshal Selection

ST. CHARLES, IL (November 11, 2013)   St. Charles Boy Scout Troop One seeks alumni to represent the Troop as Grand Marshal parade participants for the St. Charles Electric Christmas Parade at 5:30PM on Saturday, November 30.

In honor of the Troop One’s 100 year anniversary, the Troop was selected by this year’s parade committee to represent the Parade as the 2013 Grand Marshal.  Alumni of Troop One would represent the troop by walking or riding in the parade. Past alumni with interest and availability to participate are encouraged to email Troop One Leader Chris Jensen at chris.jensen@sbcglobal.net.

Troop One, B.S.A., St. Charles, Illinois, was the first Boy Scout Troop in St. Charles, and remains one of the oldest Troops in the nation. It was founded in 1913 by Mr. Karl Asplund. In 1934, Troop One became chartered to American Legion Post 342 in St. Charles, and has remained with the Legion ever since.

Many current and former business and civic leaders in town were members of Troop One when they were boys, including Zimmerman Ford founder Bill Zimmerman, and former longtime Mayors Fred Norris and Don DeWitte. The lives of countless young men through many generations have been influenced by their experiences in Troop One.

St. Charles Holiday Homecoming is a two-day event from Friday, November 29 to Saturday, November 30 that features Lighting of the Lights, Sleigh Rides on 1st Street, Visits with Santa, a Holiday Movie, and the Electric Christmas Parade. This year, the parade will recognize St. Charles Boy Scout Troop One as the Parade Grand Marshal.
