Carol Frey, Owner of Sensible Threadz, a Local Community, Make a Difference, Discount Retail and Resale Store located at 208 S. Kirk Road, St. Charles, writes the following thank you letter to the Community:

To All of our Local Patrons;

Find out what's happening in St. Charleswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Since the inception of Sensible Threadz, November 1st, 2010, many of the people of this wonderful community have come together in supporting our many ongoing drives of assistance to our Local Shelters & Organizations. They have also assisted us in recognizing our Local artisan talents in the Community, and they have personally gained substantial savings & dividends on clothing items for their children, themselves, and items for their homes. Therefore, we felt it was only appropriate that we thank you and share the following with all of you, because we have appreciated your support through these challenging times.

Since this is our Local Community Store about ALL of US, we wanted our customers to understand the many challenges our shop has continued to contend with over the past 19 months of business. We would also like to say that if it were not for all of you sharing your support we would not still be here today. We are also not sharing this information to gain pity or sympathy in any way for us, but to ask for your ongoing assistance.

Prior to opening Sensible Threadz, we took on an immediate financial challenge from a supplier who misappropriated the funds given to supply our initial inventory to open our shop. We had either the choice of scratching the entire plan that we worked so hard to accomplish over the previous 3 years, or move forward and put our faith in the public and the business plan that we had created. We chose the latter. Since choosing this path, we have gained confidence in the loyalty of our customers and have shown continual signs of slow growth.

We then knew we needed to file a police report for the theft against the individual, and have been working with the Kane County States Attorney since February of 2011 in getting this individual punished under the terms of the law.

The next challenge we had to endure within the beginning stages of opening this business included the closing of the Borders bookstore within our shopping center. Once they closed, so did 4 others leaving our shopping center a virtual ghost town with very little traffic.

Even though we have been challenged, we have not lost the opinion of what is most important in our mission of working within our communities, to strengthen them and help them grow. While we have continued and enjoyed working with the many Local Shelters and Organizations making differences in the lives of so many individuals, we are now seeking assistance from our public in helping us to get the word out that our business is still alive and operating, and would like to continue to focus on assisting our local neighborhoods. We are at a point that if we do not continue to gain the attention that we need to grow our efforts will not be able to continue in the future. Due to the lack of traffic in our shopping center, our sales have started to stabilize instead of increase.

How you can help us would be to forward any information about our shop on to others to let them know how we operate and the types of items we carry so we can continue to grow and maintain what we have worked so hard to accomplish over the previous 19 months.

Within a few weeks, we will also be adding on more local artisan talents and custom made to order spiritwear for schools, teams, individuals, or events.  We are also always looking to add any new suggestions from our customers to the shop, so please don’t hesitate to contact us should you feel there is a need that we could possibly meet for all of you.

Remember our local communities will also only be strengthened by shopping within the local businesses, to revive and save our local taxes. So please also continue to shop your local merchants to continue to save our communities.

If you haven’t been in our shop as of this time, please stop in to see us and the many unique items and ways we work to better the community. You can also visit us at www.sensiblethreadz.com, Sensible Threadz on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest for more information about us.

Sincerely,

Carol Frey
