Fox Valley Court Watch Slates Training

Group monitors domestic violence court proceedings in Kane, Kendall counties.

Fox Valley Court Watch, a nonprofit organization , is offering a training session on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2013, for interested volunteers in Kendall and Kane counties. Fox Valley Court Watch monitors the judicial process in domestic violence courts in the judicial centers of Kane and Kendall counties.

Fox Valley Court Watch observers are community volunteers trained in domestic violence and court procedure. They monitor, evaluate and advocate improving services for victims of domestic abuse. The volunteers document observations of all trial activities in misdemeanor and felony domestic violence cases, with an eye toward identifying strengths and weaknesses in the judicial system in Kane and Kendall counties.

Volunteers must be 18, have an email address, daily email access, and commit to at least one half-day session on a weekday per month for at least six months. Volunteers also are required to attend one court session to observe our function in the courtroom before make that final commitment.

Training for both counties is being held at the Sugar Grove Library, 125 So Municipal Drive, Sugar Grove, beginning with a continential breakfast at 8 a.m. Jan. 30, 2013.
