5 Things: Talk Like a Pirate and More

Arrrrre you ready? It's International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Area mothers are invited to join the St. Charles Mothers' Club for its kick-off meeting tonight. This club enables are residents to get involved with a charitable organization that helps area families.

Here are five things going on today, Sept. 19:

1. The  from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at The Office, 203 E. Main St. The St. Charles Mothers’ Club is a non-profit, philanthropic organization that works to improve the lives of women, children and families in the community. This event is free to new or prospective members and will include appetizers and a cash bar.

2. A will start at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the r. Discussion topics include a motion to approve a JumboTron screen for public viewing of the movie at Scarecrow Fest and a facade improvement agreement for 202 Cedar Avenue.

3. You can learn how to make a  at 6:30 p.m. at  in Geneva. Guest speaker Ellie Stewart will assist participants in mixing a bath blend for healing and detoxification using Dead Sea Salts and essential oils available at Peaceful Parlour. 

The class fee is $25, which also includes most materials. Participants are asked to bring a dark-colored glass vessel in which to store their bath salts; some will available for purchase that evening. Please call the Peaceful Parlour at 630-232-6300 to register.

4. Yellow House Artists is an organization of artists who work in oil pastel and/or oil stick mediums. The group will present its through Nov. 3 at , 700 W. Fabyan Parkway in Batavia. 

5. Fun Fact: Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. What started as an inside joke between two friends in 1995 gained notoriety in 2002 when columnist Dave Barry liked the idea and decided to promote it. So, instead of greeting people by saying, "Hello," why not give them a hearty "Ahoy, Matey!" instead?
