Bleacher Bums and More: 5 Things for Sept. 9

Don't forget that Geneva's Festival of the Vine opens today. Head to the festivities to experience delicious food and wine pairings.

1. from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Davis School campus. The block party will feature a chili and tamale cook-off. Chrysler will also have three vehicles available for test drives. The school's PTO will receive a donation from Chrysler for every adult who does a text drive.

A full concession stand selling pizza, hot dogs, beverages and candy will be available, along with a DJ and three bounce houses for children. Wrist bands for unlimited jumps during the party will be on sale for $2 each.

2. Geneva's annual  with a fresh flower market by The Pure Gardener at 10 a.m. at the old courthouse lawn on South Third Street. Other events include in-store wine tastings, trunk shows and much more.

Festival of the Vine celebrates all things wine and food, so make sure to stop by this weekend to enjoy some of the delicious events. 

3. The live play  at the Geneva Underground Playhouse. Bleacher Bums is a play about a day in the life of Wrigley Field’s outfield bleachers.

The show was conceived by Joe Mantegna and written by him and other members of Chicago’s Organic Theater Company in the 1970s. It was first performed by the Organic Theater in 1977.

4.  optometry shop in Geneva will host its  from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will feature the work of photographer Denis Kruk.

5. Fun Fact: Today is National Wiener Schnitzel Day. In Germany, a veal cutlet is used as a base to the breaded and fried dish known as Wiener Schnitzel.
