Electric Christmas Parade Lights Up Main Street in St. Charles

Parade concludes the annual Holiday Homecoming, but not the holiday activities heading toward Christmas.

A hush descended on the crowds lined up along both sides of Main Street in downtown St. Charles on Saturday as the streetlights suddenly went out.

“I think it’s coming!” an excited young boy shouted.

In short order, however, the Electric Christmas Parade brought its neon colors to Main Street, whether by Christmas tree lights adorning floats designed just for the occasion, by glow-in-the-dark batons borne be a drill team — even some horses were adorned with lights and jingle bells.

The parade went off with nary a hitch — until one float slowed to a standstill, requiring a marching band and two or three more floats to pass by until it could get back into motion. Still, the slowdown didn’t seem to bother those gathered along Main Street to watch — in fact, they got to listen to a few minutes of music and revel in the float’s lights until it got moving again.

The weather cooperated, too — no rain or snow and no noticeable wind amid evening temperatures that were considerably warmer than the night before.
