St. Charles Historic Preservation Commission to Host Seminar on Architect R. Harold Zook

Wed., March 14, 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Center

The City of St. Charles Historic Preservation Commission will welcome author Betty Green on Wednesday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Municipal Center, 2 E. Main Street, St. Charles.

Green will be discussing her book, “Zook: A Look at R. Harold Zook's Unique Architecture,” which recognizes the little-known, but influential architect whose work can be seen throughout Chicago’s western suburbs. In the Fox Valley, Zook is best known for designing the St. Charles Municipal Center, a 1940 Art Moderne civic landmark, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Zook also designed a local St. Charles historic landmark house, a 1935 Colonial Revival Cottage located near Pottawatomie Park on Fulton Avenue. Elsewhere in the region, he is known for his residential work in Hinsdale and the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge. The seminar is open to the public.
