Horror Film With St. Charles Link to Hit VOD

‘Munger Road’ to be released to video on demand on Sept. 11, publicist says.

A horror film written and directed by a St. Charles native will be released to video on demand next week, according to the company promoting the release.

Munger Road, written and directed by Nicholas Smith, is scheduled to be released to video on demand on Tuesday, Sept. 11, said Jason Kasperski of Prodigy Public Relations.

Munger Road is set in a sleepy Midwestern town on a night when a group of teens explore the famed Munger Road — a spot where a horrific tragedy occurred years earlier, according to a synopsis. Something terrible happens to the group, forcing the local police to acknowledge a killer has returned and is lurking in the area just as thousands of people converge on the town for its annual Scarecrow Festival.

The movie, of course, is inspired by an urban ghost legend connected with the real Munger Road, which is northeast of St. Charles and west of Route 59, which is roughly parallels. Roger Ebert gave the movie three stars when he reviewed it.

The film stars Bruce Davison, Randall Batinkoff, Trevor Morgan, Brooke Peoples, Lauren Storm, and Hallock Beals

At 86 minutes, the film is rated PG-13.
