See Composer's Return to Sing His Salute to St. Charles

This fall, the St. Charles City Council formally adopted "In St. Charles" as the city's official song.

One of the anticipated highlights of Friday’s Lighting of the Lights ceremony was the first public performance of “In St. Charles” by the one-time St. Charles High School student who penned the song years ago.

A songwriter and composer, Jim Masters is a St. Charles native. As he sang, he was accompanied on keyboard by his sister Barbara, who teaches at Elmurst College. They did not disappoint  — nor did the audience’s singing along with the chorus disappoint Masters, if the broad smile on his face was any indication.

Born in 1954 in St. Charles, Masters attended St. Charles High, but left the area in his senior year. He never forgot his love for St. Charles, nor his memories of the city where he group up. Those memories inspired the song.
