Campton Hills Police Cite 50 With Speeding During Campaign

Officers issue only one seat belt citation and make no DUI arrests. Chief credits effectiveness of past holiday traffic safety campaigns.

Campton Hills police issued 50 traffic citations during the recent Labor Day “Drive sober or get pulled over” impaired driving and safety belt enforcement campaign, according to a release.

Officers issued 43 citations for speeding and only one citation for seat belt violations, the release stated. Campton Hills officers made no impaired driving arrests during the campaign. Chief Dan Hoffman credits the past holiday traffic safety campaigns for the compliance on impaired driving and seat belt violations.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort to save lives by getting impaired drivers off the roads and more motorists buckled up during late-night hours.

The Campton Hills Police Department joined forces with other state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners in conducting the crackdown campaign featuring high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities including a media campaign and additional law enforcement activity.

“Our enforcement numbers are going down after each successive holiday enforcement detail, especially our DUI and arrests and seat belt violations,” Hoffman said. “The special enforcement program is working. More and more drivers are complying with the law.”
