St. Charles to honor those who have died in service to our country

Memorial Day Parade to be held on Main Street beginning at 10:00 a.m. A special memorial ceremony at the Freedom Shrine (behind the Police Department) will immediately follow the parade.

Dedicated community volunteers and city officials have come together to give St Charles residents the opportunity to pay honor and respect to our American troops who have given their lives in service to our country.

Official ceremonies and a parade will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. The turnout at the city’s Memorial Day events in the past years has been tremendous. Participation in demonstrating respect and love for our country to Gold Star Families (those who have lost a family member serving our country),Veterans still living and to our families and friends is an appropriate way to honor those who offered and given their lives. All Veterans and residents are welcome to participate in several activities planned in St. Charles.

“Memorial Day is an important and meaningful day of remembrance,” said St. Charles Mayor Donald DeWitte. “It is a time-honored tradition in our community, to come together on this day and pay tribute to those fallen soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms, and strike down tyranny at home and abroad. I encourage you to come out and attend these local events to reflect, remember and honor those who have valiantly served their country.”
