Veterans Day 2012 - St. Charles Honors Those Who Served
Approximately 100 people gathered at Fire Station #1 to remember our veterans and to give thanks to those that have served our country in times of need.
On Monday, November 12th, the City of St. Charles held its annual Veterans Day service to honor those that served our country. The event is organized by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5036, American Legion Post #342, and AMVETS Post #503.
Approximately 100 people gathered at Fire Station #1 to remember our veterans. The ceremony included an invocation, reading of the Veterans Day proclamation by Mayor DeWitte, and keynote address by Mark Powell of Veterans of Foreign War Post #5036
Powell spoke of all who have sacrificed to defend our country. He also reminded us all of the remarks of President George Washington:

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.”
Let us all give thanks for what we have. More importantly, let us express admiration for those that made a sacrifice so that we can give thanks.
