Watch construction of Red Gate Bridge in 3-1/2 minutes

A time lapse video has been produced that shows 20 months of construction in under 4 minutes.

The new Red Gate Road Bridge extends Red Gate Road across the Fox River to Route 25. The City broke ground for the bridge in August, 2011. Work was completed in May, 2013.

The Red Gate Bridge provides St. Charles with its northernmost Fox River crossing. The bridge:

  1. enhances transportation infrastructure
  2. alleviates congestion in downtown St. Charles
  3. connects the St. Charles community in a new way
  4. provides a new recreational amenity and enhances access to existing forest preserve district lands and bike trails
  5. enhances public safety
  6. saves residents of St. Charles and the surrounding area time and money

During the construction of the Red Gate Bridge, the City maintained two cameras that streamed live video of the activity taking place at the site. The cameras also captured still images that have now been compiled into a video that documents the construction from start to finish.

I would like to thank staff members in Public Works and Information Systems for their effort in establishing the cameras and maintaining them through the construction period. I extend special thanks to Carolyn Shannon in IS for compiling the images and producing the videos.
