5 Things: How to Properly Dispose of Your Pool Water and More

Residents with backyard pools should be safely draining them for the season. The City of St. Charles has some guidelines you can follow to help ease toxic chemicals draining into the ground; keep reading to find out more.

Here are five things going on today, Sept. 21, 2011:

1. See Chicago's Latin diva of comedy at 8 p.m. at . Vasquez is a native of Chicago and got her start as a comedian on the Zanies stage. Her style is described as "comedy with a heart" and she has appeared in comedy festivals throughout the country. Tickets are $24 with a two drink/food minimum.

2. The St. Charles East Boys Varsity Soccer Invitational continues today with games at 5 and 7 p.m. at soccer fields throughout . This year marks the 18th annual Soccer Invitational and teams from Burlington Central, Elgin, Glenbard North, Marmion Academy, Plainfield Central, Plainfield South, St. Francis in Wheaton, will participate.

3. The is asking residents to properly dispose of their pool water. Pool water contains high levels of chemicals which are toxic to plants and animals.

4. Join  in celebrating their Merchant of the Week with free appetizers and drink specials from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The honoree for this week is be Josef’s Elegante Meats and Deli

 is about bringing people together, establishing new friendships and gaining a greater understanding of the community. The event takes place every Wednesday in the upstairs lounge area of Villa Verone.

5. Fun Fact: Today is World Peace Day also known as the International Day of Peace. To inaugurate the day, a Peace Bell is rung at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The Peace Bell was a gift to the United States by the United Nations Association of Japan and contains coins donated by children from all continents. It is a reminder of the human cost of war. White Peace Doves are also worn on clothing to commemorate the day.
