Comings and Goings: Downtown Dining Choices Narrow in St. Charles

If you’ve looked around downtown St. Charles over the past several weeks, you might have noticed there are a few less places to eat. That certainly was noticed by some of St. Charles Patch’s Facebook followers in recents weeks.

, closed in late October. A city official confirmed the closure but had no details. While its website does not indicate it has closed, calls to the business are met consistently with a busy signal. The restaurant had served pizza, pasta and other Italian fare for more than a decade.

Another casualty is St. Charles Patch learned last week the restaurant is closed, and a short, one-sentence statement on Bistro One West’s website adds further confirmation: “Unfortunately, Bistro One West is closed.  We thank you for your patronage.”

St. Charles Patch readers also raised concerns about , which closed its restaurant doors in mid-October but continues to operate as a catering business. But the owners, on the Isacco Kitchen website, say the restaurant will reopen in the new year after a retooling.

“Isacco Kitchen is closed, effective October 17, 2012. However, Isacco and the Kitchen are still available for catering and parties — call 630.464.3035. Unused gift certificates can be redeemed for wine or catering, or can be refunded. We anticipate re-opening in January 2013 — new year, new concept. Thanks for three great years!”

Isacco Kitchen also posted its announcement on its Facebook page, where 42 followers posted comments expressing regret at the closure.

The closings came as local the city and local organizations were laying plans for the holiday season, including the Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s kickoff of Spend Local Awareness Week, which started Sunday and runs through Saturday, Nov. 17, and aims to draw residents’ attention to the heart of the local business community.

St. Charles’ Economic Development Office earlier this month announced five new businesses have moved into town.

On the city’s West Gateway:

• J.M. Baker Graphic Design, 611 Katherine St., a graphic design firm.

On the city’s East Gateway, there are some new industrial businesses:

• DGJR, 3720 Illinois Ave.
• KC Cleaning, 1830 Wallace Ave., No. 218
