Performers Sought for New Downtown St. Charles Program

Downtown St. Charles Partnership will pair entertainment with downtown businesses for its new STC Live!

Is there a song in your heart? An image in your eye? Do you like multitasking to keep balls or other objects sailing through the air?

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership is looking for performers for its new program, STC Live! The new program, which the partnership announced in a release on Monday, intends to help create activity by coordinating live, free entertainment in downtown businesses.

The partnership is seeking artists, musicians, and entertainers of different disciplines who have interest in showcasing their talents to support the downtown, the release states.

“We want this program to promote our businesses, encourage people to explore all that our downtown offers, and expose the many talents of people in our community,” Downtown St. Charles Partnership Executive Direct Lynne Schwartz said in the release.

The idea is similar to one of the ideas John Rabchuk floated during his unsuccessful bid for mayor, and complements Mayor-elect Raymond Rogina’s proposal to renovate the Arcada Theatre as part of an effort spark a resurgence in the city’s entertainment district.

During the leadup to the April 9 election, mayoral candidates talked about ways of increasing activity and foot traffic in the downtown area to bolster and support local businesses — and to attract new businesses to the downtown’s empty storefronts.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership plans to pair selected talent with an appropriate business, its release states, and is seeking artists who would like to participate.

STC Live! will take place on Wednesday and Friday evenings beginning Wednesday, June 12, 2013 and continuing through early fall.

To help generate interest and excitement for the business and its patrons, the performing entity must present a professional, family-friendly performance including appropriate language and attire.

Interested parties should submit the following via email to spiner@downtownstcharles.org.

  • Contact name, name of act, phone, and email.
  • A short description of type and style of entertainment.

And at least two of the following:

  • Demo and/or examples of past work.
  • Performance resume.
  • Three professional references.
  • Website with example of work, testimonials, etc.

The STC Live! Committee will review the information submitted by interested performers and begin arranging appropriate talent with interested businesses. Performers will have their information listed on the Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s website. While performers will receive no pay, they will receive publicity and promotion.

The STC Live! program will promote the downtown with live, free entertainment. In the end, these in-store mini-events will help bring more people downtown, showcase the businesses, and help enhance the district for shopping, dining, recreation, and entertainment.
