Residents Can Get Paid to Shop in St. Charles

The "Shop St. Charles Challenge" Offers Residents a $100 Rebate for Local Purchases.

Starting in June, St. Charles residents will be able to get a chance to get an extra bang for their buck through a shop-local program that city is unveiling to encourage people to makes purchases at local, independent businesses in town.

The Shop St. Charles Challenge encourages residents to spend their shopping dollars within the community. In return, one resident each month will earn a $100 rebate on purchases made at three different independent stores or restaurants.

The promotion starts in June and runs through April 2014, according to a release from the city.

To be eligible, St. Charles residents must submit an entry form that can be downloaded from the Shop St. Charles Challenge webpage (www.stcharlesil.gov/shop-local).

St. Charles residency is required and there are restrictions. Each month, one entrant will be selected and have 30 days to patronize three different St. Charles businesses. Each business must be from a different commercial corridor (downtown, East Side, and West Side).

Participants must adhere to the Shop St. Charles Challenge rules, which are listed on the program webpage. That includes completing a written review or submitting to an interview regarding his/her experiences at each business. Those selected as participants will be reimbursed up to $100 after completing the review or interview and submitting receipts for the purchases.

The first Shop St. Charles Challenge participant will be selected in mid-June and notified by phone, according to the city’s release. Essays/interviews will be published in the city’s monthly Den newsletter, on the city’s website, and in other media outlets.
