School Supply Drive and More: 5 Things You Should Know for Monday, Aug. 22

Donate school supplies today and get a free frozen ice cream treat.

Celebrate National be an Angel Day today by being kind to your fellow men and women. 

Also, you can learn about herbs during a Pottawatomie Garden Club meeting.

1. The meets at noon at , 2600 E. Main St. in St. Charles. The meet-and-greet portion of the meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. Today's meeting is titled "Herbs for the Garden and Kitchen."

2. The Wendy's on Randall Road in and are helping families in need by collecting school supplies as part of a . Anyone who brings in new school supplies worth at least $2 will receive a free junior size Frosty treat. Donations will be taken in the dining area or at the drive-through.

3. A will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Chef Vince will pair his delicious food with Sam Adams Beer. The cost is $20. 

4. Parents with adorable babies born in 2010 or 2011 can enter them in the . This contest is part of Tom & Eddie's first-year anniversary celebration. 

Each family can request a Tom & Eddie's T-shirt from the restaurant (while supplies last) and shoot a photo of their baby in the shirt and post the picture on Tom & Eddies Facebook page. The photo with the most "likes" wins a Silver Spatula Award—good for a free weekly meal for an entire year. 

5. Fun Fact: Today is National be an Angel Day. This is a non-denominational spiritual day that encourages people to perform a random act of kindness and help those in need.
