Small Business Saturday: What’s a Good Local Restaurant to Take a Date?

Rox City Grill, Fiora's, Bistro One West, River Rockhouse, Poblano Pepper Grill, Zazas, Francescas, and Wild Monk are highlighted by St. Charles Patch's Facebook followers.

With Small Business Saturday coming up Nov. 24, St. Charles Patch recently asked its Facebook followers, “What’s a good local restaurant to take a date for a weekend dinner?”

More than 900 people viewed the post but just a handful actually responded.

One comment stood out for its nostalgia:

Brandon Snow I miss the hideaway.

The reference, of course is to , near Valley View. The famed steakhouse was named after the notorious Prohibition-era gangster who was feared as the ruthless mastermind of the St. Valentine’s Day massacre in Chicago. The former speakeasy closed its doors in February after a 38-year run.

Another was a nostalgic, but in a surprising way.

Heide Hansen Hughes suggested , but St. Charles Patch learned Wednesday evening the restaurant is closed. A short, one-sentence statement on Bistro One West’s website states simply, “Unfortunately, Bistro One West is closed.  We thank you for your patronage.”

But plenty of options remain, according to St. Charles Patch’s Facebook followers:

Daniel Thompson’s response, “Rox City Grill” at 100 W Main St., generated one “like.”

Lee Leroy Anderson Fiora's Restaurant, 317 S. 3rd St.

Sara Arlene 'Leavitt' Turner suggested 106 S. 1st Ave., “and stay to enjoy the music after.”

Kate Galliett touted 3677 E Main St., with the “best margaritas in town!”

Jayme Masaracchia Muenz gave a “fantastic” endorsement to 5 S. 1st St., and to

Saint Charles Arts Council Wild Monk, 51 S. 1st St.

While it’s not exactly, Heather Von Hoff Trask suggested the Turf Room in North Aurora, a comment that generated one “like.”
