TCF Bank Branch Closings to Hit Wheaton, Tri-Cities Areas

The bank announced it will close 37 branches in Jewel-Osco stores are the Chicago area, including Wheaton, St. Charles, Batavia, West Chicago, South Elgin and Elburn.

TCF National Bank’s plans to close 37 of its branches at Chicago-area Jewel-Osco will include at least six locations in Wheaton and the Tri-Cities area, Crain’s Chicago Business reports.


Crain’s says the move is one of the largest such local consolidations in recent memory and that Minnesota-based TCF intends to close the in-store locations by the end of March.


The publication quoted TCF Vice President Thomas Jasper as saying more branch consolidation may occur down the road its as customers migrate toward mobile applications and ATMs for to make basic transactions.

“Within all of TCF's branches, customer behavior is changing,” he told Crain’s. “Clearly, there are fewer visits in all of our branches than there used to be.”
