Artéculture Blooms in West Chicago

West Chicago, Illinois: April 11, 2014 - The West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission is proud to announce a new opportunity for community art-sharing, and has put out a call for local artists to participate in a two-day exhibit. The event is called Artéculture, which is a play on the word horticulture, intended to connect the garden and art theme for its debut at Blooming Fest on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Prior to Blooming Fest, there will be a preview of the community art on Friday, May 16, 2014 during Local Music Night from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. The event takes place on both dates at Gallery 200/STUDIO, located at 203 Turner Court. Artéculture is a grass-roots initiative which provides a showcase for the talents of all residents or those with a connection to West Chicago. The Commission's hope is to develop the art niche at the downtown garden festival by appealing to the art and craft enthusiasts, as well as gardeners, who attend Blooming Fest. However, the subject of the featured artwork is not limited to a garden theme. Exhibitors must be connected to the community through school, work, home or Gallery 200. Artwork sought is two-dimensional, ready to hang (preferably framed with wire and eye hooks). Sculpture and crafts are also welcome. The registration fee is $5 per piece of art with a limit of two works per artist with a combined size dimension of 24” x 24”. Art must be delivered to Gallery 200/STUDIO on either Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. or Saturday, May 10, 2014 from noon – 2:00 p.m., and picked up following the event on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. If necessary, additional pickup arrangements may be arranged through the City Museum. The efforts of volunteers who serve on the West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission support programs and projects like Artéculture which nurture the strong creative spirit within the community and enrich the cultural arts experience for all West Chicago residents.
