Call for Public Input on Environmental Cleanup Grant Application

West Chicago, Illinois: December 11, 2013 - The City of West Chicago would like its residents to know about a grant application the City has prepared to submit to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  This EPA grant is available on the City’s website www.westchicago.org, beginning on December 23, 2013, and will be available for review and comment until January 14, 2014.  Hard copies of the draft application are also available at the City Hall (Dept. of Community Development) and at the West Chicago Public Library.  The City requests feedback from the general public about the draft grant application.

The City will submit the grant application to the EPA in an effort to receive additional funds to help its environmental cleanup efforts for the approximately 8 1/2-acre site north of West Washington Street and west of Fremont Street.  The City expects to complete necessary cleanup of this area as part of the redevelopment process for this large, visible and important area of the downtown.  Long term plans include a new municipal facility consisting of a city hall, a new ‘town square’ or ‘village green’ outdoor space, residential development, commercial/retail development and new parking.

A public informational meeting has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 7:00 PM to review this application.  A separate announcement will be provided concerning that meeting.
