5 Things: Let's Hear it for the Ladies in Business

Learn how to speed up weight-loss goals with a seminar in St. Charles today.

The City of St. Charles is looking for community feedback about a Comprehensive Plan that will shape a long-term vision for the city. City officials are asking residents to attend a public session tonight; find out more below.

Here are five things going on today, Sept. 22, 2011.

1. with a neighborhood workshop at 7 p.m. at . City officials are hosting a series of public sessions designed to enable the community to help shape the ' new Comprehensive Plan. The establishes a long-range vision for the City, defines community goals and objectives, and provides guidance for implementing programs and policies for City’s future growth. 2. Join for a class titled , which will include an overview of risk reduction strategies, family history, medications, diabetes and cholesterol management relating to heart health. Registration is required. For more information, visit the Delnor Hospital website

3. Musician, singer, and St. Charles native Dawn Harkins will have a CD release showcase for her second album This is Romance from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at in Geneva. Harkins first album, Dawn of a New Day, was released in 2010.

Harkins' vocal studio, Vero Voice School of Music, 2501 Dunham Woods Ct., has provided vocal instruction to students in St. Charles for more than 10 years. She and her staff serve students from throughout the western suburbs. 

4. Medfitness of St. Charles will host a seminar titled Do This, Lose Weight, from 7 to 8 p.m. at its 2400 E. Main St. location. Fitness author Richard Wolff will explain why he feels conventional weight loss strategies no longer work and how to effectively lose weight now. 5. Fun Fact: The American Business Women's Association was founded on Sept. 22, 1949. In 1983, a joint congressional resolution by President Ronald Reagan proclaimed Sept. 22 as National American Business Women's Day. The goal of the American Business Women's Association is "to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership; education, networking support and national recognition." They have thousands of members in chapters nationwide.
