5 Things You Should Know for Friday, June 17

Here are today's must-know items for St. Charles.

1. The is planned from noon to 1 p.m. at The Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St. in Chicago. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the day president Richard Nixon declared "war" on illegal drugs in the United States. 

2. The hosts Shelly Moore Thomas, author of the "Good Knight" book series, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thomas will sign books and tell stories of knights and dragons. Fans are invited to bring their own copies of "Good Knight" books or some will be available for purchase. 

3. Join the St. Charles Park District's newest mascot, Otter, for a swim from noon to 1 p.m. and 6:30 t0 7:30 p.m, at . Families can enjoy photos, games, and other fun activities during this event.

4. Show your father or grandfather how much he really means to you and decorate a handmade card for Father's Day at in Geneva from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

5. Radio station 101.9 WTMX will have its Mix Road-Crew in the St. Charles parking lot from 3 to 5 p.m. Meet the crew members and take a spin on the Mix Prize Wheel for giveaways and prizes.
