American Idol and a Green Market: 5 Things You Should Know for Thursday, June 30

Tonight's Concert in the Park performance is a homecoming for musician and former American Idol contestant Leslie Hunt.

It's going to be another hot and sunny day in St. Charles, so please take the proper precautions when in the sun. Pets need attention, too, so make sure they are kept cool and have fresh water to drink. 

1. WeatherChannel.com is reporting a high of 85 degrees with a UV index of 9-very high. Be sure to protect skin from the sun with sunscreen and light colored, loose-fitting, clothing. Dehydration can be prevented by drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcoholic beverages while in the sun.

2. St. Charles Park District's Concert in the Park series continues with a performance by Leslie Hunt at 7 p.m. in . Hunt is a St. Charles native and former American Idol contestant who made it to the top 24 during the show's sixth season. 

After Idol, Hunt made a name for herself in the music industry as a singer and songwriter; she performs regularly throughout the United States. Her latest album, Your Hair is On Fire, was released in August 2009.

3. Geneva's weekly Green Market runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 75 N. River Ln. in Geneva. The Market is a non-profit food distribution program promoting organic and sustainable products from local farmers and artisans.

4. Small business owners should know that the State of Illinois Small Business Job Creation Tax Credit will end today. Business can obtain the $2,500 withholding tax credit for each full-time employee hired since June 30, 2011.

5. Join the city of Lombard for opening night of the Taste of Lombard, sponsored by the Lombard Jaycees. The festivities begin at 5 p.m with an annual flag presentation. Local band 7th Heaven, who recently performed at in St. Charles, will take the main stage at 9 p.m.
