Community Benefits Lazarus House in St. Charles During the Holidays

Lazarus was among several local mental health agencies that received $139,000 in aid.

, the St. Charles homeless shelter, hosted its annual Christmas Day brunch this weekend.

Shelter Executive Director Liz Eakins told the Daily Herald that the event, which started 30 years ago, is a community celebration as well as a benefit for the poor.

The shelter also has received a holiday-time infusion of funding.

At a recent Geneva City Council, the Geneva Mental Health Board presented checks for various local agencies, totaling $139,000. Included among them was the Lazarus House.

The mental health board awards money to organizes that serve Geneva, according to the Kane County Chronicle.

told St. Charles Patch earlier this year that Lazarus saw an increase in the number of those staying at the shelter.
