Downtown St. Charles Partnership Recognizes Winners of Pride Awards, Volunteers

DSCP presents awards at annual meeting at Hotel Baker.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership announced the 2010 winners of the Downtown Pride Awards during its annual meeting Feb. 24 at Hotel Baker. The awards are presented annually to business owners who have made a significant contribution to Downtown St. Charles during the previous year.

The 2010 winners are , , , Traditional Irish Pub, and the Hauser Group.

The DSCP gathers nominations from the community and reviews them for award criteria, which includes that all potential winners are located within the Downtown St. Charles historic district, and they must have made a major investment of time, talent or dollars with a significant, positive impact on Downtown St. Charles during the previous calendar year. DSCP board of directors members vote to decide who will receive the honors.

Other nominees were Boudoir Nail Spa, Brix Wine and Cheese, Ginger Root Hair Salon, and Pizzeria Neo.

Jennifer Faivre, executive director of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership, was impressed by this year’s list of nominees.

“All of the businesses that were nominated have really made a positive impact on our downtown district,” she said. “The fact that we had such a high caliber slate is really a testament to how much our downtown has changed in large part due to the 1st Street Redevelopment Project.”

Several other St. Charles organizations also were recognized for contributions to enhancing Downtown St. Charles. These include the St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau for the expansion of Scarecrow Fest to 1st Street Plaza, the Chamber of Commerce for Cruise Nights conducted on 1st Street, the City of St. Charles, along with Onesti Entertainment Corporation, for the Arcada Theatre marquee restoration, Steel Beam Theatre for 10 years of economic and cultural enhancement and the City of St. Charles for the restoration of the Municipal Building Plaza and river wall.

The evening concluded with recognition of some key organization volunteers from 2010, including a memorial to Jim Spear, a longtime resident of St. Charles and active member of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership. Other meeting highlights included a presentation by keynote speaker David Ivan, who coordinates a Michigan initiative designed to create a community environment that supports entrepreneurship and business enterprise development.
