Holiday Homecoming 2012 Is Drawing Near

The annual event will feature the Lighting of the Lights on Friday, Nov., 23, and the Electric Christmas Parade on Saturday, Nov. 24. A host of free activities round out the weekend.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership announces the schedule and activities for this year’s Holiday Homecoming on Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24, in downtown St. Charles to celebrate the official kickoff to the holiday season.

Holiday Homecoming features the Lighting of the Lights ceremony, sponsored by AAA Insurance, at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, in the First Street Plaza, and the Electric Christmas Parade, sponsored by Fox Valley Auto Group, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24.

New this year is a Christmas Tree Lot that will sell trees beginning Friday, Nov. 23, along the east side of 1st Street. Swans’ Christmas Trees have been selling trees in the area for many years and will add to the festivities downtown, selling trees and garland throughout the holiday season. Also new is a free holiday movie at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, sponsored in part by the Arcada Theatre and BMO Harris Bank. On the Arcada Theatre’s big screen, the classic, family favorite Home Alone will be shown at 2 p.m. Friday, and The Polar Express will be shown at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24.

Additional activities during the two-day event include Sleigh Rides Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. on 1st Street, sponsored by St. Charles Bank and Trust; and Visits with Santa beginning Saturday morning in the First Street Plaza sponsored by the Kane County Chronicle. All Holiday Homecoming events and activities are free of charge.

Free holiday movie Home Alone, 2 p.m. at the Arcada Theatre

Lighting of the Lights on the 1st Street Plaza at 5 p.m. The ceremony will be led by Mayor Donald DeWitte, with special appearances by the St. Charles North and East High School chorales, and Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012

Free holiday movie The Polar Express, 10:30 a.m. at the Arcada Theatre.

Free Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides on First St. Plaza, 1 to 4 p.m.

Visit with Santa at Santa’s House on the 1st Street Plaza, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday from Nov. 24 to Dec. 23.

Electric Christmas Parade on Main Street between 6th Street and 4th Avenue at 5:30 p.m.
