Look Out Tri-Cities: 2 to 4 Inches of Snow’s Coming

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow that is supposed to last until midnight, potentially snarling the evening rush and dropping 2 to 4 inches in the process.

The advisory, which was posted by Accuweather, predicts the snow will be heavy at times, reducing visibility, before tapering off later in the evening.

The National Weather Service predicts accumulations of 2 to 4 inches with some isolated higher amounts. The greatest accumulations will be north of Interstate 88.

The greatest threat from the snow is reduced visibility, the weather service said, which could be cut to less than a mile at times, as well as rapid accumulations on roadways during the evening commute. The weather service advises caution while driving.

Paul McCurtain, spokesman for the St. Charles Police Department, said late Thursday afternoon the city streets are being plowed, and the department was experiencing no problems.

St. Charles police were at the scene of an accident at Route 31 on the north end of town, but it was not certain if it was weather-related.

The weather service said this snowfall is wet and heavy, meaning it can be tougher to shover and could create added weight on power lines, leading to possible power outages.
