Memorial Day Events Being Planned in St. Charles

Activities set for May 30 include a raising of the colors, a parade and a ceremony at the Freedom Shrine, among others.

Planning is underway for St. Charles Memorial Day activities set for May 30.
Volunteers are coordinating the following events:

6 a.m. — Raising of the colors at the Baker Community Center, 101 S. 2nd St.
6:30 a.m. — Ceremonies at South Cemetery on east side of 7th Avenue, north of Madison; North Cemetery on the west side of Route 25, north of Johnor Avenue; and Union Cemetery on the east side of Route 25, north of Stonehedge Road. The ceremonies will include honor guards, firing squads, and posting of the colors.
10 a.m. — Memorial Day Parade, which runs along Main Street from 6th Street to Riverside Avenue.
10:40 a.m. — Ceremony at the Freedom Shrine after the parade along the river, north of the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Ave. The ceremony will be moved indoors to Fire Station 1, 112 N. Riverside Ave. in the case of inclement weather.

Veterans who would like more information or who would like to participate in the parade should contact VFW Commander Mark Powell at 630-587-6444 or 630-329-6444. Those wishing to get involved also can call the mayor's office at 630-377-4422.

Donations to support Memorial Day activities also are welcomed and can be sent Powell at the St. Charles VFW, 119 N. Third St., St. Charles, IL 60174. Checks should be made out to VFW Post 5036.
