'Munger Road' Could Reach Theaters Nationwide

Because of recent success, the locally shot movie could get a larger audience.

, directed by St. Charles native Nick Smith, has become an instant local hit.

The horror film follows two police officers on the eve of who search for an escaped serial killer the same night teens go missing. It opened at the end of last month at and is spreading to  theaters outside of St. Charles.

Smith told The Sun Times that Universal Pictures has said the movie could be released nationwide later this month.

According to various media reports, the movie did well for the theater. Charlestowne 18 grossed about $40,000 the opening weekend, which made it the highest-grossing theater in the country, according to NBCChicago.com.
