National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Planned for April 30

Four area police departments will accept unwanted or unused prescriptions from St. Charles residents for disposal.

St. Charles area residents can drop off unwanted prescription medicines at four local police departments during the second annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 30.

In an effort to keep pharmaceuticals from being flushed into sewage treatment plants or from falling into the wrong hands, medicines will be collected for disposal by the following authorities:

Campton Hills Police Department, 40W115 Campton Crossing Dr., Unit B, Campton Hills, IL.

Geneva Police Department, 20 Police Plaza, Geneva, IL.

Elgin Police Department, 151 Douglas Ave., Elgin, IL.

Aurora Police Department, 1200 E. Indian Trail Rd., Aurora, IL.

The free, anonymous drop-off event is endorsed by the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County.

Following are tips for those who do not opt to participate in the take-back event:

• Do not flush old, unused prescription medications down the sink or drain.

• Do not place them in the trash.

• Do not give or sell them to others.
